Moyes's enormous pay-off revealed
The staggering size of David Moyes’s pay-off after being sacked as Manchester United boss has been revealed; United are going ahead with a huge £55m double transfer planned by Moyes; and Tottenham are preparing to make a high-profile collective handshake snub – the top stories from the morning’s papers.
‘Revealed: Moyes’s huge pay-off’ - David Moyes's disastrous reign as Manchester United manager
will have been worth £7 million to the Scot in wages and compensation
once his settlement is finalised, according to a report in the Daily
Telegraph. The Scottish manager will have apparently earned an
eye-watering £137,254 a game during disastrous 10-month reign at Old
Trafford in which he oversaw just 51 games in charge of the team after
succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson last summer.
Paper Round’s view: So the
question is, should we really feel that sorry for Moyes? Well, yes, as
it happens. Okay, so he may have pocketed a huge amount of cash for his
miserable failure at Old Trafford, but making a rich man even richer
does not deflect the fact that his professional pride has been damaged,
likely beyond repair. This was his big chance and it could not have
worked out any worse for him. He is best advised to enjoy his earnings
with his family and to take some time out of the game. Just don’t jump
into a job under Mike Ashley, please, David!
Read the full story‘United to go ahead with £55m double deal’ – Despite Moyes being sacked, United are going to plough on undeterred with plans to make a £55m bid for Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana, and defender Luke Shaw, according to the Daily Mail. Thanks largely to Moyes’s work behind the scenes, talks to bring in England left back Shaw, 18, are at an advanced stage, with United confident of sealing a £30m deal. Lallana will likely be added into the deal as both parties look to get the most out of it with £25m the asking price for the Saints captain. Regardless of who the next United manager ends up being, this deal is already in the process and talks are at the stage whereby it would be a shock for it to be scuppered.
